What it is
Sol is the middle tier of OpenAI’s GPT-6 family, between the top-end Astra and the low-cost Luna. GPT-6 Sol arrived on September 22, 2026, and GPT-6.1 Sol replaced it on September 29.
What it costs
$2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with a context window of about 1.05 million tokens.
What it means for you
For most people building on OpenAI’s API, Sol is the sensible default: strong enough for most tasks and much cheaper than Astra.
